When people ask me how I’ve managed to bounce back from setbacks and push myself into new challenges, they often expect an answer involving motivation, willpower, or sheer grit. The truth is far less glamorous but infinitely more reliable: daily non-negotiables.
These are the simple, consistent habits that keep my health in check and allow me to perform at my best, whether that’s in training, in business, or in life.
Life will always throw challenges your way. Relying on bursts of motivation is a losing strategy, because motivation is unreliable. What keeps you moving forward is structure: the things you do every day, regardless of mood or circumstance.
Think of them as anchors. When everything else feels uncertain or overwhelming, these anchors hold you steady. Over time, they compound, creating resilience, strength, and clarity.
Everyone’s list will look different, but here are some of mine:
Start small. Pick one or two things that you can commit to every day, no matter what. Maybe it’s drinking two litres of water. Maybe it’s walking for ten minutes outside. The key is consistency.
Over time, those small actions become your foundation. They’ll give you the resilience to handle the unexpected, and the energy to perform when it really matters.
You don’t need a long list of rules to live by. You just need the right few, the non-negotiables that protect your health and fuel your performance.
Ask yourself: what are the daily habits that will keep you anchored, no matter what challenges lie ahead?
